Fayne also plays with Greene. That has to help his numbers. I like the guy just not on the top pair but they clearly don't want to give time to the youth so better him than Anton, Sal, Zid, and Harold.

It may not be a the answer but I can't help but think we would generate a hell of a lot more with Merril and Larsson back in this lineup and Sal and Anton sitting. At the very least sit Sal for one of them.

I think I saw JJ fall 4-5 times in the 10 min he played last night - this shouldn't still be happening with a guy in his 4th NHL season...I get that the Devils may have screwed up his development with the consistent healthy scratchings over the years but him and Tedenby just aren't built for the NHL

He is pretty good defensively and has speed but has no scoring touch, no quickness/strength to get to the dirty areas around the net and I just don't see what he brings to the table being on the 1st line over Zubrus/Boucher

Also, did anyone see the play where Captain Pylon almost broke both his ankles in the 2nd? I believe it was before the shot that hit Corys shoulder and then the post...PUT IN MERRILL AND LARSSON!

Maybe not those exact combos, but those 6 guys. There's no reason not to. I do not believe for a second that that group would play worse than one with Sal, A-Train, and/or Harrold. Either they're better and help the Devils make a playoff push, or they're not too much better but at least our young guys (Larsson, Merrill, Gelinas) get more playing experience and are better prepared for next year. I know we have no first rounder but there are other factors to consider for the future like getting our young guys playing time and building up some confidence in them. It boggles my mind that Larsson is still in Albany and that Merrill sits while Salvador and Volchenkov play like absolute ass. I really could care less of Sal is the captain, honestly that makes it even worse that he plays this way.

Yup couldn't have said it any better so frustrating. If we are going to suck and miss the playoffs it might as well be with Larsson, Merril, and Gelly in the lineup.

Disagree on that one. Goalies we have in the pipeline have potential but aren't Schneider. Marty can't play forever.

Edit: although Nichuskin is making me think twice. Hard to trust a superstar Russian with the keys to the franchise again though. Always the risk of flight. Look at Burmistrov. Yakupov is next, what is he, a -31 this year?

Quite simply if we end up losing Schneider as a UFA for nothing then yes obviously that trade was bad for us, but if we can get him locked up long term I think it's definitely worth it. Unless that forward you could have drafted is a Crosby or Ovechkin I'd maintain that a stud goalie to a team is more valuable than one great forward. At the time I wanted us to draft Nichushkin because that was before Kovalchuk left and I had visions of the two of them tearing teams up, but now that Kovy's gone I feel a bit differently about it.

My main gripe from last year is that we didn't trade Clarkson at the deadline. I was screaming at the TV on deadline day for Lou to try to trade him to Toronto for a pick or something, oh well.

not a bad option at all. Guy can play, gives a nice combo of grit and skill. He's only 24, looks to be on pace for a possible 25 goal, 60pt season. 6'0, 211 lbs. 2008 8th overall pick. He's just not really a dynamic goal scorer. This year and next year at 2.55.

PHX is in contention tho, I doubt they trade him. They have decent D too.
